A 50th Wedding Anniversary Gift from the family to be read at their parents "bash" and to be kept as a reminder of their life together so far

What is your name : Deborah Sonnier

Who do you want the poem written for: my parents 50th wedding anniversary

Why do you want the poem written: I want my parents to have a personal touch at their 50th anniversary bash, plus something they can keep that has a special meaning. I want this to be from all the kids, not just from me personaly.

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): happy

Please choose which package you would prefer : Economy

Would you like a copy of the handwritten drafts : No

What are the key messages you would like to send: Just what wonderful parents they are. How their marriage is such an inspiration. How they have always been there for each of us kids, they have stood behind us regardless of right or wrong. They have offered each of us guidance and been supportive and loving. There are truly no better parents in the world. They have shown strength and love, even when we did some really bad stuff. They have given to the community through church, and helped others by living the example.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: When my parents went off to get married (in Richmond, TX), halfway there - my mom realized she forgot her license and they had to go back and get it, dad teases now that he should have known right then and ran. Mom told her friends that my dad was the man she was going to marry, even before they had gone on a date. My dad coached my brothers baseball, so we spent alot of time at the baseball field. We even had a pitching mound in our back yard. "Roll your hips" is a big saying when you coach pitching, so we heard that alot. My dad came home everyday from work at 4:15, my mom would already have his coffee poured and waiting on him, she would kiss him hello and they would talk about the day for about 30 minutes before getting dinner started. We camped some at Garner State Park. Once in New Braunsfel, mom and dad wouldn't let David and I go with Phyllis and Wayne down the big rapids because we were to young, so we stayed at the small ones and ended up having to get a rope to pull my dad in who got stuck on a rock in the middle. My mom was going to show us how to walk down the ramp that was covered in algae, because she did it all the time when she was a kid - right in the middle of her mantra she slipped and busted her head. When my mom had surgery, David and I had to stay at my grandmas, when my Dad picked us up we made up a song "We're going to Pasadena as fast as we can to see Momma and Wayne and Little Phyllis Ann" the song has stuck. My father retired in 1988 and they moved to Coldspring, Tx. He raised and trained beagles up until about a year ago, so we always had outside dogs, except Tippi (a mutt) who stayed in the house. We also had a stray cat that lived outside named KiKi. Mom took one of our hamsters to show and tell at school, she forgot the hamster in the car and it died. Worst though, once she remembered it she tried bringing it back to life by putting it up to the a/c. When Mom fixed us a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, she always took one bite out of it before giving it to us.

Do you have any other comments or thoughts : We grew up at 3116 Hays Street in Pasadena, TX. There are 4 children (Wayne, Phyllis, Debbie and David) in order of age. Phyllis passed away on Sept. 18, 1996. There are 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. All the grandkids call mom and dad, "Nanny" and "Paw Paw".
I know this is alot of information, and I don't expect it all to be included just wanted to give you plenty to work with. None of them are a must to use.
Thanks so much!!!!!! I'm so glad you are able to do this on such short notice. THANKS AGAIN.

A Long Way From 3116

Hello, our wonderful parents,
these words are just for you,
because we're proud of who you are,
and we're very proud of what you do.

And we just wanted to say "we love you",
but in truth, we didn't know where to start,
so we thought we'd share a few feelings,
and give you some words, straight from the heart.

Firstly, we'd like to begin by looking skywards,
and thanking those in the heavens above,
because we know we've been blessed to have shared you,
we know that we've been blessed with your love.

You truly are simply wonderful, magical parents,
and your marriage has been such an inspiration to us all,
you've always been there for everyone of us,
you've always picked us up whenever we'd fall.

You've stood behind us, regardless of right or wrong,
and officially, we'd like to thank you for your love and support,
because there are truly no better parents in this world,
and just for one moment, please hold that thought.

Because you've offered each of us your expert guidance,
you've shown strength and love, even when we were off the rails,
you've given to the community, especially through the church,
and your desire to help others simply never fails.

And we're so glad that mom went back and got her license,
even though Dad says he should have known right then and ran,
but little did he know, even before you'd gone a date,
mom had already told her friends; "I'm going to marry that man".

We've all spent a lot of time on the baseball field,
but that's what you get when Dad's coach their son,
we'd hear "Roll your hips", even in our back yard,
but we must admit, those days were really a lot of fun.

Dad came home from work every day at 4:15,
mom would always have his coffee, ready and poured,
she'd kiss you hello and you'd talk for 30 minutes,
then mom would get a delicious dinner started (our reward).

And we've shared so many wonderful moments,
in truth, there's just too many to individually list,
just know that each and every one is precious,
there's not one that we would have missed.

We'll never forget when we were too young for the rapids,
but in the end, it was Dad that needed the rope,
then mom showed us how to walk down the algae covered ramp,
just watch this kids, this is easy, just watch the slope.

Right in the middle of your mantra you slipped and fell,
but we're going to Pasadena as fast as we can,
(as we had to stay at Grandma's while you had surgery)
to see Momma and Wayne and Little Phyllis Ann.

Dad retired in 1988 and you moved to Coldspring,
and you raised and trained beagles up until about a year ago,
but we've been lucky, we've always had outside dogs, except Tippi,
who was luckier than the hamster who we got to show.

Mom tried to bring it back to life via the air-conditioning,
thank God it wasn't a sandwich or it would have been missing a bite,
but seriously, Mom, Dad, we just wanted to say "thank you",
we wanted to thank you for sharing your love, your light.

Because we've come a long way from 3116 Hays Street,
and my! Look at how your mighty oak has grown,
4 children, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren,
we're all very grateful for the love that you've shown.

And you may think that there's one missing here tonight,
but Phyllis lives on inside of us all, her spirit's alive and well,
and I know she'd also want to say thank you, we love you,
we're rather proud of you (I hope by now, you can surely tell).

So, we think we'll finish by saying: "we love you",
actually, we've never really said just how wonderful you are,
but if our love for you were a distance,
then it would be further than the furthest star.

We also wanted to say: "Happy 50th Anniversary",
we guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, Mom and Dad, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to your everlasting love, for evermore.
