1st Wedding Anniversary poem and a belated honeymoon to Hawaii

What is your name : Nancy Gillespie

Who do you want the poem written for: My husband, Alan

Why do you want the poem written: It is our first year wedding anniversary on September 1st, and on this day we will have been together for 3 years as well. Despite any hardships we may have had on the way here, I am so grateful we are celebrating our first wedding anniversary in the midst of our dreams. We are taking our trip of a life time, a Seven day cruise to Hawaii, our belated honeymoon. (Our honeymoon was canceled last year due to the hurricanes in Florida, We were supposed to going to the Bahamas) I couldn't think of a better time to be celebrating US.

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): Romantic

Please choose which package you would prefer : Deluxe

Would you like a copy of the handwritten drafts : No

What are the key messages you would like to send: Three years ago when we first started, we dreamed of moving and living on Cape Cod. We fell in love hard and fast. I have 2 children who see their father, my ex-husband regularly. Alan did not need to step in and be a father to them, but somehow managed to do just that (in a sharing capacity with their dad) He earned their love and respect and my heart. We dreamed of living on the cape as a family, perhaps even extending our own. Between the time we first fell in love and talked of living our dream on the cape and the time we were married, we almost ended...painfully. We went through some horrible ordeals, including the loss of both our grandmothers, whom we were both very close to. There was something unnatural and ugly over us that threatened everything we were, all that we shared and all that we wanted. Somehow, our love was strong enough to pull us through and we were married. The first 6 months were very shakey, there was still a cloud hovering over us of the bad memories that almost ended us. Finally, a break in the clouds came when Alan was offered a job on the cape and I knew I would find work. The timing was perfect much like it was when we first got together, everything is starting to fall into place. I found a great job, he is working his dream job we bought our home on Cape Cod in a wonderful family neighborhood. It almost seemed as if all the ugliness and uncertainty was left behind or even vanished when we finally began living our dream. Like we just picked up where we left off when we were happy and the bad times never existed. We are so much in love again now and I believe we are even more in love now than we ever were. Our first anniversary is now upon us and it marks the most powerful time in our life. I need to let him know how glad I am that he is in my life and that we made it past the hard times to get to where we are now, our road to happiness was long and hard but somehow our love has grown more beautiful and stronger. I am so glad to be his wife, he is my very best friend and I look forward to our life together.

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: Last summer we took our first vacation together to Aruba. It was the best vacation either of us had ever had, and we were both travelers and have been all over. We reconnected on that trip and found our love was still strong. 2 months later, we were married at the Kennedey Memorial on Vetrans Beach in Hyannis, Ma (Cape Cod) Because our Bahama Cruise was canceled due to the hurricanes in Florida, we Spent our honeymoon on Cape Cod. We took a Ferry to Martha's Vineyard, a very tiny plane to Nantucket Island and visited one of our most favorite get-a-ways on the cape, Provicetown. Ultimately, we had a great time, we were at home on Cape Cod. But the two things I have always dreamed of doing were a Cruise and a trip to Hawaii...My wonderful husband, who is a travel agent. combined the two in one to mark our first year anniversary and the trip of a life time. How perfect do we sound right now?...I am so happy and so in love with Alan. We are finally the couple we always knew was still there and the family we both deserve.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts : Still sort of a touchy subject, Alan is touching upon having a child but is having a hard time telling me that. I don't want to seem pushy either way or make him feel like I am trying to drag a decision out of him. My feeling is that now that we are settled in our home and jobs and we are taking our trip of a life time, he may want to have a child, and although I would love to share the love and beauty through the special connection of a child having with him. I have not been deprived of the joys of being a mom. I have two beautiful and healthy Children Nicole 13 and Erik 11, who he is such a wonderful dad to. If this is something he really wants, I would gladly share this with him, But it is not something that would leave a void in my life, although it may in his. (Perhaps this could be mentioned in the poem in a subtle and delicate way)

Somehow

Three years ago, when we first started,
we dreamed of moving to and living on Cape Cod,
and now here we are, celebrating our first anniversary,
in the midst of our dreams, in the garden of God.

Despite any hardships we've had on the way here,
and hey, they say that life is never a rose filled dream,
but through it all, we've stuck together,
we've proved to the world, we truly are a team.

I couldn't think of a better time to be celebrating US,
because US is an entity that's surely going to last,
because I know what we share is simply timeless,
although when we met, we fell in love, hard and fast.

And you did not need to step in and be a father to my children,
but somehow, you managed to do exactly that (and more)
and now they're lucky, because they have two Dads,
and you've earned my love, my respect, my heart, for evermore.

We dreamed of living on the Cape as a family,
perhaps one day, even extending our own,
and I know our time hasn't always been easy,
but in that time, our love has somehow grown.

But we went through some horrible ordeals,
and we almost ended, quite painfully,
but through our losses, our traumas,
we both figured out our place to be.

The break in the clouds came with the job offer,
that's when our future really started to take shape,
and now today, we are so very much in love again,
we've found our eternal happiness, here on the Cape.

This first anniversary is such a magical smilestone,
and it marks the most powerful time in our life,
and I want you to know that I'm glad we made it,
I want you to know I'm very proud to be called your wife.

And our road to happiness was long and hard,
but somehow, our love has only grown the stronger,
and I'm so glad to be married to my very best friend,
because this heart and soul aren't lonely any longer.

And I'm so looking forward to our life together,
maybe we'll share more trips to Aruba and beyond,
and I know with a travel agent as a husband,
all my dreams can come true with your magic wand.

But I'll never forget our ever sp perfect honeymoon,
Martha was there, in all her resplendent glory,
and I know on the cruise we'll make many more memories,
but let's save them for another day, another story.

Because I do want to talk about our children,
those that be and those that might come into play,
if this is something you really want, then I'll happily say "yes",
but I guess that one line leaves so much to say.

As "no" is not something that would leave a void in my life,
but on the other hand, I think it would in yours,
I also know that you make a wonderful Dad and father,
and that you would make our children your lifelong cause.

But then again, how perfect do we sound right now?
We are finally the couple we knew we could be, all along,
I am so happy and so in love with you, Alan,
I know in my heart you will never do me wrong.

So maybe we shouldn't answer yes or no right now,
instead, let us both bow to the greater winds of fate,
because I know, somehow, that they've looked after me,
they blew you to me, my one and only, my soul-mate.
