What are the key messages you would like to send: Our five years together has been a wild ride. We have taken huge chances and lived spontaneously. Now we have a daughter who is the love of our lives. I am so happy to share this experience with him and I look forward to many years of happiness as we watch our daughter grow.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: Damien and I met at Lake Nacimiento in May of 2000. I took a chance and moved to the Bay area with Damien after only knowing him for two months. While it was a crazy thing to do, it was the best decision that I have ever made.A year and a half into dating, Damien and I took our first vacation together to Maui. The day after we arrived in Maui, Damien proposed to me while we were having lunch on a rocky coast line. We decided to get married two days later (on December 31, 2001) without telling our friends or family. We found a dress, hawaiian shirt, minister, flowers and a beautiful botanical garden overlooking the Hana Coast. We drove away in a white PT Cruiser decorated with red hearts and lettering that read, "Just Maui'd".
In our first six months of marriage we bought a house and started a business together. While our business (SLO County Passport) is doing well, it has been a rollercoaster. We have experienced ups and downs both financially and emotionally. As stressful as it has been, I am glad that we took the chance as most people are too afraid to take such risks.
In August of 2004, we discovered that I was pregnant with our daughter, Makena. We actually chose the name, "Makena" while we were on our honeymoon three years prior. We were sitting on Makena Beach in Maui and I said to Damien, "I know we probably aren't going to have children but if we do, I want to name my daughter, Makena". Makena was born on April 19th (2005) so this will be Damien's first Father's Day.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts : We have been through a lot together in the past five years. We have had great times in Hollywood, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Napa, Hawaii, Florida, New York, Niagra Falls and Jamaica. I want Damien to know that the past five years have been the best five years of my life. The birth of our daughter has been the most amazing experience of all. I love watching Makena look into Damien's eyes and smile from ear to ear. He will be the most amazing father ever and will be the light in his daughter's eyes. She is so lucky to have a father like Damien. There is a special bond between a daughter and her dad. | Hello, my wonderful father, these words are just for you, because I'm proud of who you are, and I'm very proud of what you do. And I just wanted to say "I love you", but in truth, I didn't know where to start, so I thought I'd share a few feelings, and give you some words, straight from the heart. Now, I know you and Mom are young and fun, and for five years, you've had a pretty wild ride, but I know I couldn't have chosen finer parents, I know I couldn't - even if I'd tried. I'd also like to thank you for my name: "Makena", as I know we'll make many happy memories, in the years to come, and I'm sure we can carry on living spontaneously, taking huge chances, but I also know that I'm really lucky to have such a wonderful Mom. I feel so honored to be the love of your lives, I can feel your undying love as you watch me grow, and I know we'll share many years of happiness, but there's a few other things that you should know: Look, I know you've come a long way from Lake Nacimiento , but moving to the Bay was the best decision Mom ever made, and we both just wanted to say a heartfelt "thank you", we're very proud of the role that you've played. Because you've been a wonderful father and husband, and I'm so glad that Mom, in Maui, had the great sense to say "yes", because I know you two were destined to be together, and I know we're all destined for a lifetime of happiness. I was just a twinkle in your eye at your impromptu wedding, but when destiny calls, you just have to go with the winds of fate, and I do think you think you looked so handsome in that Hawaiian shirt, and it was quite obvious that you were marrying your soul-mate. So, in grand fashion, you drove off in a white PT Cruiser, and I sincerely hope "Just Maui'd" is the way you always stay, and I know that SLO can get a little stressful at times, but trust me, don't worry, you'll find the way. Because most people are too afraid to take such risks, they know where their happiness port is, but they never set sail, and ultimately, they never discover life's full, bountiful riches, and so, little by little, inch by inch, day by day, they fail. But that's not how it will be with us, my wonderful father, because there's so much in this life that you can teach, and never underestimate the power of thought, the power of will, because after all, I was there with you on Makena Beach. I know you and mom have shared so many wonderful moments, in truth, there's just too many to individually list, just know that each and every one is precious, there's not one that mom would have missed. From Hollywood to New York to Jamaica, the past five years have been the best in mom's full life, but when I arrived, she reckons that was the best day of all, she wants you to know she's very proud to be called "your wife". Dad, you know you make me smile from ear to ear, but I guess by now this should come as no surprise, because I know you are the most amazing father, ever, that's why I smile, I can see it there, in your eyes. And I know that we share such a special bond, and your love for me will always burn so very bright, and Dad, I just wanted to say "thank you", your love has been my inspiration, my light. So, I think I'll finish by saying: "I love you", actually, I've never really said just how wonderful you are, but if my love for you were a distance, then it would be further than the furthest star. I also wanted to say: "Happy Father's Day", I guess that's really what these words are for, here's to you, Dad, you're truly wonderful, and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore. |
