What is your name : Vannessa
Who do you want the poem written for: my husband, Bryan Schiavoni
Why do you want the poem written: March 28 is our first wedding anniversary! I want to frame a poem about our love story as a present and add pictures. I will hang this on our wall.
What are the key messages you would like to send: Love at first sight, and still so in love. We have a cosmic connection to eachother, and even when we fight, we are still so drawn to eachother. I would go to the ends of the earth for Bryan. I know marriage will get tough at times, but there is no one else in this world I would walk the journey with. We drive eachother nuts at times, but I think it's because we are so crazy for eachother. I love him truly, madly..deeply.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: This is our story...Vannessa and Bryan both attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, but it wasn't until August of 1995 that fate brought them together. Vannessa and her roomates had just moved into a cottage in the Olympic Village (a gated community built for the 1920 Olympics), when she noticed a maroon Chevy Camero parked in her space. Normally, she wouldn't mind, but this was an acception. Her's was the ONLY shadey spot in the whole lot! She decided to wait and see which of her neighbors owned the car so that she could ask them to kindly park in their own spot. Time passed and the owner was nowhere to be found. After a couple of days, one of her friends spotted the culprit, but merely caught a glimpse of him...parking his car and walking into a cottage ACROSS the street! Vannessa and her roomates talked about it, and decided to leave a note on his car. The note was tossed to the ground and 'Aloha Man', as they nicknamed him because of his Hawaii plates, continued to park in the space. As you can imagine, Vannessa was not very fond of her mystery neighbor by this point. One day, Vannessa sent her roomate to Aloha Man's cottage to ask him to move his car because she needed to unload heavy laundry baskets from her car into the apartment and his car was in the way. Vannessa and her friend Julie watched from the porch as the mystery man emerged from his cottage wearing nothing but a TOWEL wrapped around his waste! No shoes, no boxers...nothing! He was dripping wet and MAD! Vannessa and Julie laughed and made comments in disbelief of this OBNOXIOUS guy. 'No he DIDN'T!!' As Aloha Man got closer, Vannessa got a better look at him...and quickly stopped laughing. She turned to her friend Julie and with a serious smile whispered, 'damn...he's HOT!'. The two girls laughed about it, but continued to hide behind a column. Aloha Man never saw them. A couple of days later, Bryan and his roomate Nick were hanging out on their porch when they noticed an old beat-up station wagon making it's way into the village and down the street, towards them. As the station wagon got closer, Bryan noticed the girl sitting in the passenger seat and thought out loud...'now THAT's the kinda girl I'm gonna marry...' The station wagon made its way pass them and into the parking lot across the street. The girls got out of the car and walked towards the cottage. Suddenly Bryan ran across the street and asked the girl that was sitting in the passenger seat to take a picture of him and his friend. She did, he said 'thanks', she said 'no problem' and walked back to her cottage. A couple of days later, Vannessa was hanging out on her porch when she noticed Aloha Man walking to his car. He grabbed something out of the back and turned to walk back. They made eye contact! He calmly walked over as she asked him about the instrument in the case he was carrying. It was an ukelele. They started talking, he played a few chords, they talked somemore, he offered to make dinner for her that night and the rest is history....
Bryan flew to San Francisco the evening of March 28, 2003. Vannessa, having had a rough day, picked him up from the airport and decided to drive straight home to relax. On the car ride home, Vannessa asked Bryan how his day was. He told her a story about how he went and bought a brand new corvette on his lunch hour because he decided that life was too short and he wanted to blow his money on something 'fun' instead of using the money for a downpayment on an apartment building that he was supposed to buy. He was probably trying to get a rise out of her, but it didn't work. She remained calm and simply told him that that didn't seem like something he would do. In her mind, of course, she was thinking, 'this is just Bryan, being a nutcase...smile, be nice and humor him =)'. After they arrived at her apartment, Vannessa started to get ready for bed. Bryan was jumpy...he couldn't stand still! He asked Vannessa if she wanted to go to a park...then, if she wanted to go to look at the Bay...he said the apartment felt stuffy and that he couldn't breathe. She thought he was acting really strange, but complied. As they drove down Van Ness, towards the water...Bryan was all of a sudden quiet. They pulled into the Marina, but Bryan didn't like the 'view', so they moved to a different spot. He asked her if she wanted to stay in the car, or sit outside on the bench. As they stepped outside, he asked her if she was cold, and gave her his coat. After sitting on the bench for a milli-second, Bryan stood up and said, 'no...let's stand, do you wanna stand?' Vannessa was laughing at this point because he was acting really silly. So, they stood, and Bryan told Vannessa how much he missed her and wanted her to move to Idaho so that they could be together all the time. He said that he didn't buy the corvette. She said, 'no way!' and smiled. As he reached down in his pocket, he said '...I bought something else instead...' Vannessa just stood there, with a huge smile on her face...in SHOCK. She didn't even hear the 'question'. They both just stood there...smiling. All of a sudden, Bryan got down on one knee and asked again, 'Will you marry me Vannessa?' She, of course, said 'YES!'
Do you have any other comments or thoughts: We broke up for two years while Bryan was finishing dental school. I had recurring dreams about him and decided to call him out of the blue. We hadn't spoken to about 2 years. He picked up the phone and I apologized for calling, but felt compelled to. I told him I was having recurring dreams about him for the past few nights..specifically about him crying about his grandparents. He was shocked. He, at that very moment, was on his way home from his grandmother's funeral! We've always had an unexplicable connection..even after having no contact for such a long time. We got re-aquainted after I flew to Idaho a few times to visit (I was living in San Francisco). Our bond was definitely still there. In March 2003, we both took an IQ test for fun, and I got a higher score than he did (he's always loved my wit)..that's the day he bought the ring. We both laugh about that.
What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): happy, romantic, but not sappy

| I know marriage can get tough at times, but there's no one else I'd walk this journey with, you've already taught me so much in life, to taught me how to love, how to live, how to give. I know we drive each other nuts at times, but it's only because we're crazy for one another, and really, I love you truly, madly, deeply, you are my confidant, my best friend, my lover. Our story started at the University of Southern California, and there was a shady dispute over your parked car, "Aloha Man" had stolen "my" spot and wasn't moving, at this stage, our romance wasn't getting very far. But you came to the door, dripping wet, in a towel, and from behind a tree, I thought: "damn, he's hot", and then a few days later, you noticed the passenger, but at the time, you were still in my darned spot! However, you soon asked me to take a photo, and within days, our eyes had seriously met, we started talking, you played a few chords, you made dinner (and that's always a pretty safe bet). As they say, the rest is history, although life was no rose filled dream, and it took us a few years to realize, to realize that destiny meant us as a team. We broke up for two years while you finished school, but I had recurring dreams that troubled my sleep, I dreamt that you were crying about your grandparents, and that's a memory that I shall always treasure and keep. Because you'd just been to your grandmother's funeral, and that is something you can't logically explain, but maybe she knew what was good for both of us, and she was looking after you, once again. A few interstate flights later and we reconnected, and then we both took an IQ test (just for fun), I wont mention who got the highest score, but it was on that day, you chose "The One". After a rough day, I picked you up from the airport, you told me that you'd bought a brand new corvette that day, but when we got back to the apartment, you were restless, you asked me if I wanted to go look at the Bay. I thought you were acting really strange, but I complied, and driving down to Van Ness, your lips were tightly clenched, you pulled into the Marina, but didn't like the view, we moved and for just one millisecond, we sat on the bench. Standing, you confessed that you hadn't bought the car, but you told me that you'd bought something else instead, I just stood there with a huge smile on my face, and I never heard the finest words that have ever been said. But then you asked again: "Will you marry me Vannessa?" and of course, I answered with a resounding "Yes", and then we became the One, near the bench, on the Bay, we became One, destined for a lifetime of happiness. I know it was certainly love at first sight, and today, happily, we're still so in love, I also know I've been blessed to have shared you, I know I've been blessed by the heavens above. Because we simply have a cosmic connection, even when we fight, we're so drawn together, and I would go the ends of the earth for you, for you, I would go to the end of time, forever and ever. And I just wanted to say Happy First Anniversary, I guess that's really what these words are for, here's to you, Bryan, you're truly wonderful, and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore. |
