Golden Anniversary Gift for Parents - She's so proud that she has parents that have been married for 50 years!

Full Name: Vicky Sprayberry

Who do you want the poem written for?: My Parents---

Why do you want the poem written ?: 50th Wedding Anniversary

Key Messages: My deepest love for them, respect for them, morals and
values that they have taught me and how proud I am to have parents that have been together for fifty years.

Memorable Moments: Hiding my pacifiers in my daddy's boots, throwing my
little fits and banging my head on the floor. My mom said that I was having a
little "head banging fit" one day and my dad came in (I never knew it because I
was to busy banging my head) and he came up behind me and scooted me straight
across the floor with his boot and that was the end of those little fits.

My dad had a chain of grocery stores when I was little and he would take me with him. When we would go to Grand Saline we always stopped at the cafe/motel on Highway 80 and ate breakfast. What fun I thought that was.

My dad is a twin and when I was very little and my uncle and his family would
come for the holidays, I would always have to remember what color socks my dad was wearing so I would know which one was my dad!! (Bad thing when they had on the same color)

My mom would tell me that I was going to put her in Terrell (a State mental
hospital here in Texas) and I would say "What's Terrell?"

My mom would have my hair cut in a "Pixie" and I hated that. I would cry and cry.

Other Comments: My parents were married October 4, 1953. I was born
October 24, 1954 and I have a brother who was born September 14, 1956. My mother had a very hard and dangerous delivery with me and I was the worst colic baby ever. All I did was Cry, Cry, Cry!!! I think I just about did her in.

My parents were very strict and at the time I thought they were the worst parents ever, but now that I am (forty something) I appreciate their way of raising me more than they will ever know.

My dad is 72 and a rancher and my mom loves her home and yard with a deep
passion.

I sometimes have been the rebel child and given them a run for their money, but
when I finally "GREW UP" (lol) the relationship with my parents has been the most beautiful relationship on this earth. Their mission with their children was to
teach us to be hard working, honest adults and to always respect the people that
became a part of our life. My parents have worked so hard all their life and at
the age of 72 my dad has not slowed down. Guess you can call him a workaholic (I took after him) LOL Now at this point in their life they have everything they
want and need, are financially set and to me this poem will be the greatest gift
I could ever give them. I know this sounds crazy and selfish, but I sometimes
hope that my last day on earth comes before theirs because without them my world would be shattered.

I look around at my friends and think how lucky I am to have parents that are not divorced and have stayed together through some hard times for the love of their children and most of all the love they have for each other.

I want them to know that I will always be here for them whatever the need might
be as they have ALWAYS been there for me.

I don't know if this is what kind of information you need so please let me know
if you need more.

Style: A poem of love and appreciation from me to my parents

Package Type: Unique

Last thoughts: I WANT THEM TO KNOW HOW PROUD I AM TO HAVE THEM AS MY PARENTS AND HOW VERY MUCH I LOVE THEM AND RESPECT THEM FOR ALLOWING ME AS A CHILD OF PARENTS THAT ARE NOT DIVORCED TO CELEBRATE THIS 50 YEARS OF LOVE AND MARRIAGE
WITH THEM.

I WANT THIS TO BE THE MOST HEART FELT POEM THEY HAVE EVER READ MY LOVE FOR THEM IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO PUT IN WORDS BUT I TRUST YOU CAN DO THIS!!! THEY ARE THE SUNSHINE AND HOPE IN MY LIFE.

THEIR ANNIVERSARY IS OCTOBER 4TH

My Light

Hello, Mom and Dad,
can I have your attention please?
Because every now and then in life,
there?s opportunity you should seize.

And that moment is upon us,
and in truth, I don?t really know where to start,
but I wanted to share some words with you,
I wanted to share a few words from the heart.

You see, you mean so very much to me,
and I?m just so proud of everything that you?ve achieved,
you?ve given me hope, you?ve given me love,
you?ve given me a dream to be believed.

You were married on October 4th, 1953,
and then a year later I came along in 54,
Mom had a very hard and dangerous delivery with me,
and then as a colic baby, I?d cry for evermore.

I think I just about did her in,
but in 1956 my brother arrived all the same,
and then it appears I wasn?t so bad after all,
probably because there was someone else to blame!

I remember hiding my pacifiers in Daddy?s boots,
throwing my little fits and banging my head on the floor,
and one day Dad scooted me with his boot,
and guess what? I didn?t bang my head anymore.

Dad had a chain of grocery stores,
and he?d take me along when he?d visit the odd one,
we?d stop at the caf? on Highway 80 for breakfast,
and never has one little girl had so much fun.

I remember when your twin brother used to come and visit,
I?d have to remember what color socks you had on,
and on the days you both wore the same color,
well then I?d have to guess (and sometimes get it wrong).

I remember Mom saying that I?d put her in Terrell,
and when I?d ask: ?What?s Terrell??, she?d get even more mad,
but even though she cut my hair in a ?Pixie?,
she?s still the best Mom any girl?s ever had.

I remember you being very strict at the time,
and at times, I thought you the worst parents ever,
but now, I appreciate the way that you raised me,
those lessons have helped me to keep it together.

And at times the nights seemed very dark,
there were clouds where the future should have begun,
and that?s when your love shone the brightest,
the mists were cleared by your love, my morning sun.

Dad, you?re the lifelong rancher,
and Mom loves her home and yard with a deep passion,
and the love you have for each other is a timeless thing,
it?s season less and will never go out of fashion.

I sometimes have been a rebel child,
and like James Dean, sometimes without a cause,
but your love for me has been so consistent,
despite what, at times, were pretty obvious flaws.

But now I?ve finally "grown up",
I have discovered what a parent?s love is truly worth,
because the relationship I have with the pair of you,
it?s precious, in fact, it?s the most precious thing on this earth.

Your mission has been to teach us to be hard working and honest,
and we wouldn?t have made it without your support,
and we?re just so grateful for all of your values,
and for all the valuable lessons that you?ve taught.

You?ve taught us by living and breathing your values,
and to always respect people that become part of your life,
you?ve taught us love, love for each other and for the world,
and importantly, how to love and live as husband and wife.

You?ve both worked so hard all of your lives,
so much so that ?workaholicism? is now a family trait,
and before these lines come to their end,
there?s one other thing that I?d like to state:

I am who I am because of you,
in every way, you have been my inspiration,
and my feelings for you are best summed up as this:
Love, gratitude, pride and admiration.

Because you?ve always been there for us,
and there have been times, when others have not,
and I just wanted you to know that I?m very grateful,
because with you in my life, I?ve a wondrous lot.

And selfishly, I want you to live forever,
because, truly, I just couldn?t bear to be apart,
so just know that I?ll always love you,
and you?ll always be there, right there in my heart.

And I look around at my friends,
and think how lucky I am that you never considered divorce,
you?ve stayed together through some pretty tough times,
for the love of your children (and each other, of course).

So, I?ll always be there for you,
just like you have for me, oft times before,
and if you ever start banging your heads,
then I too, will pick you up off the floor.

Because, you are indeed my sunshine,
and mere words could never express exactly what I feel,
but what I do know is that my love for you is a living thing,
it?s genuine, it?s heartfelt and so very real.

So, I just wanted to say thank you,
thanks for sharing your simply magnificent light,
thanks for being the sunshine in my life,
thanks for giving me hope on that darkest night

Comments:

Vicky kindly replied after the first draft:

"Unbelievable!! I am sitting here crying my eyes out! How perfect this is."

and then, after the party (October 9th, 2003)

"Allen

Just wanted to let you know that I received the poem and I can not tell you how very pleased I was with this whole transaction. I read the poem to my parents on their anniversary and the tears that were shed were unreal!! They absolutely loved it and I could not have done anything that they would have loved more.

Thanks again and I am so grateful to you.
