Tribute from Daughter to Father at his funeral service

What is your name : Jennifer Fries

Who do you want the poem written for: My Father

Why do you want the poem written : My Father's service is coming up on Sat. Feb 12th, 2005. I do not want to write a speech, but really want to share the experience from being his daughter, but every time I try my words get jumbled and I fall apart.
What are the key messages you would like to send : Loving, caring, always listened but mostly he was always there. I could always count on him! He was not a man of many words but somehow always knew what to say and I knew he understood.Could'nt have wished for a better father.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share : He always told tastless jokes that he made up that were so stupid you had to laugh. He was sooo organized and a clean freak. He used to type out the menu of the week on his old Smith Corona typewriter on his homemade notepads of scratch paper and post them on the fridge. I remember him teaching me and my sister how to fish at Camp Toulume for rainbow trout. on another note... holding his hand as he took his last breath.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts : He was an avid fly fisherman, very creative he made a lot of neat things. Very proud of him for becoming clean and sober for twenty years. I understand he had to go. I know he is in a better place I will just miss him very much.
What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): Happy and sad.

Please choose which package you would prefer:Unique

Fishing Again

This is just so very hard for me,
and to be honest, I don't know where to start,
you see, all week I've tried to collect my feelings,
but my words kept getting jumbled, kept falling apart.

I guess it was because I loved my Daddy so much,
and it's hard to describe his true and honest worth,
because he was such a fine father, nay, a great father,
and I'm so sorry that he had to leave this planet Earth.

But I also know that it was his time to go,
and now, undoubtedly, he's in a much finer place,
but that's not to say that I'm not going to miss him,
I'm going to miss that welcoming smile on his face.

Actually, there's so much I'm going to miss about him,
he was loving, caring, he was just, well, he was just and fair,
he always listened, he was someone who I could count on,
he was not a man of many words, but he was always there.

He also always knew just the right thing to say,
and despite his brevity, I knew he'd always understand,
I couldn't have wished for a fairer or a better father,
and I think he followed the path that God had planned.

Because he was clean and sober for twenty years,
he faced his dragon and put a spear through it's chest,
and of the all fathers that this soul could have chosen,
well, I know I'm lucky, I chose the finest, the very best.

I'm going to miss his tasteless made up jokes,
they were so stupid, you couldn't help but laugh out loud,
and Dad, I know you're listening, I think you're great,
you made me, you make me, feel so very proud.

You were sooo organized, you were a clean freak,
and I'm going to miss you typing out the menu every week,
actually, you were very creative, you made a lot of neat things,
and you made two beautiful daughters, so to speak.

I remember you teaching us how to fish at Camp Tuolumne,
with your skills, that day, they were some unlucky rainbow trout,
but not only did you teach us to fish, you taught us more,
you taught us what life and love is all about.

And I'm glad I held your hand at the very last,
it seemed so fitting, we'd been through so much together,
so Dad, just know that I miss you and I love you very much,
and one day, we'll be fishing again, but this time, forever and ever.

Amen.
