Amazing Place
| Hello, my wonderful Grandparents, this poem is just for you, because we're proud of who you are, and we're proud of what you do. You are some of the most important people in our lives, you've always been there for us (and me), you've been an inspiration, our light, you've shown us how married life can be. You're more than just Grandparents, in fact, I consider you as my very best friends, and I'll try and justify that statement, before these lines come to their respective ends. I was proud to be your 25th anniversary present, and I'm even prouder to be here 25 years on, because you are both my sunshine, and your love for me has brightly shone. And I felt honored to be at your "Geezers" dinners, so much knowledge and thought in one sitting, they say you can judge people by the friends that they keep, and in your instance, that is particularly fitting. You've such an amazing place in my heart, I'm so very grateful for your love and support, I'm so very thankful for your friendship, and for all the lessons that you've taught. And I graduated exactly 50 years on, yours were mighty steps to fill, I'll try to uphold your splendid reputation, and do my very best to fit the bill. Grandfather, you are so very funny, how I love your impression of Donald Duck, I feel very fortunate to have had you in my life, it's more than fortune, it's the best kind of luck. I'll always remember the elephant mask, and you always keep the family laughing loud, I like the way you make me feel: Always loved and so very proud. Grandmother got her degree way back when and proved what determination is all about, she is so sweet, caring and thoughtful , and she'd give you her last dollar to help you out. Actually, you've both accomplished so much, and for every left turn there's been many more right, in truth, you've been and are my inspiration, you're like my northern star, my guiding light. You've always been ahead of your time, it's amazing what you've both achieved, you've proved that life is worth the living, and that dreams are dreams to be achieved. Grandfather was in the Air Force for 30 years, a silver bullet across the dawn red sky, Pappaw flying above the clouds, Mimi stayed at home but still flew high. Because she cared for her four beautiful children, and kept the home so wonderfully well, two soul mates on their journey together, and still so obviously in love - can't you tell? And your sayings will always stay with me, your friendship, kindness, support and love, will too, you've been there all the way for me, I am who I am because of you. And Amazing Grace seems to touch your heart, a song that seems to enter your very soul, but amazing is how I would describe you both, it's amazing that you both make me feel so completely whole. So we just wanted to say thank you, it's amazing the inspiration that you've been, here's to you Pappaw and Mimi, two of the finest people this world has ever seen. |
