| A spring break, one sunny day in March, a hero walked upon this earth, and he proved himself in an hour of need, he proved how much one life could be worth. He was a remarkable man, young and barely not a teen, but of all the people on this planet, he's the bravest that I've ever seen. We wouldn't be here today, if it weren't for Bane's noble deed, and if bravery was a measure of success, then Bane was destined to succeed. So, I think of him now, and all I can do is grieve, because I think of all those moments that you've missed, and what he would have gone on to achieve. I cannot explain why we didn't get in touch, I guess we didn't want to intrude upon your grief, because we were truly grateful for Bane's act, an act of bravery simply beyond belief. The scene was a tragic one: Young girls fighting for their life against the sea, the undertow choosing who would live or die, it's hard to fathom how some things just go and be. I know we should have been in touch, I know we can never undo that wrong, but please know that Bane's death wasn't in vain, and his memory still lives bravely on. Bane's spirit is alive and well, it lives inside of us, one and all, and if there's anything we can do, we'll do it - no matter how large or small. Just know that, now, as then, you were always there in our hearts, and Bane is a part of our story, in fact, he's the whole that makes up our parts. We hope that those who've Crossed Over, are sharing in this closure too, I know we should've done this earlier, but you can't change the past - I guess that's true. And I feel that Bane is still with us, and he's helping to bring this chapter to a close, he worked hard to give me the signs, and now he's helping with this prose. We're forever connected, forever joined, and Bane will watch over us with loving care, and the article that got reprinted, is just more evidence that he's still there. So just know that we think Bane was a hero, and everyday he's there in our heart, I don't know how much one poem can do, but I do know that (hopefully) it's a start. |
