An 18th Birthday poem for son from mother.
Susan wrote: My son will be 18 in November and I would like a
poem for him so that he can keep it forever - after all these years of
wanting to be 18 and on his own ( he is on his own as of this month ) he is
finally there....he is just starting life on his own and the choices he
will make will profoundly affect his future.....yet at 18 it's hard to
realize just to what extent this is true. His father died when he was a
baby and I'm a single mom who doesn't know how well I've prepared him or how good of a role model I've been....friends come and go and may have their own interest at heart somewhere out of all of this I would like him to know that I'm always there no matter what. Thank you I really would appreciate you writing this poem for me as I do not know how to convey these thoughts - they come randomly like in this letter and feel you would have a way of expressing these things without sounding like a nagging mommy and encourage/congratulate as well - I hope I'm not asking too much - please let me know.
My Son
| My son, you are eighteen, And will soon leave your mother's nest, A time of trepidation, A time of happiness. Since your Daddy died, I've just done the best I can, You've made me so very proud, I've watched you become a man. And now I see before me, That man near fully grown, Wanting to see the world, And to be let out on his own. And I understand your need for space, And you won't be denied, I'll try to be tough and brave, And hide the fear I feel inside. You're going to make mistakes, Gee, I've made a few, But it will all be experience, Just do what you've got to do. But keep one thought alive, And this is all you need to know, You can always count on me, Whenever you're feeling low. I've always loved you, And I love you still, And I will always love you, I guess, I always will. |
