Heavens Above
| I believe that greatness begins in heaven, and that God has a plan for us all, and you've kindly given us your greatness, because I'm so proud of you, I feel about ten feet tall. You have a strong faith in God, and you've passed that love onto me and my kin, and we have so much to thank you for, at times, it's hard just knowing where to begin. I have only the fondest memories, it was a childhood of my dreams, and I only have two people to thank, one of the world's finest ever teams. I come from excellent stock, Irish mixed with a good dose of Italy, a blend made in heaven, a blend that came together so beautifully: My Dad always loved planes, he truly belonged in the sky, he was a natural in the air, I think he could've taught angels how to fly. He first flew when he was just a young boy, grew up and gained his wings, and knew of the genuine happiness, that only following your true love brings. When Dad had finished with the air force, he continued using his magical gift, a man and machine in perfect harmony, he'd bought himself his beloved Swift. Sadly, now the Swift has gone, but Dad's still flying his model plane, it's a love that he's always had, it's a passion that'll never wane. Mom chose to "stay at home", until I was 10 or 11 years old, chose to keep the home fires burning, (or at least that's what I'm told). Then Mom went to beauty school, and for several years she beautified, she made others up, by modelling on herself, because she was already beautiful, within and on the outside. Mom then met Ursula, who fashionably had designs of her own, and Mom helped grow that business, and my ! How it's grown ! We've had so many wonderful times, plenty of happiness, laughter and joy, even though you only had the one child, (and I'm sorry Dad that I wasn't a boy :) My childhood was nothing short of joyful, I had all I needed and a bit more, I was taught the meaning of real love, and what the word family is for. I used to love our Sundays at church, and then Pancake House was a real treat, Dad taking his "two ladies" for breakfast, damn fine company and plenty to eat ! In the summer we belonged to the swim club, I swam and dived to my heart's content, we paid our dues and gained many a happy memory, I reckon money and time very well spent. My cousin Marge spent the summers with us, our vacations were mostly spent in Maine, I think that's where my parents loved it the most, because they went back there again and again. Those summers were really magical, horse rides at Whitey's and never ending days, and I'm so grateful to you both, and so grateful in so many ways. You have such a deep love for your family, you are two of the kindest people you'd ever meet, and should have done parenting in the Olympics, because you two would be impossible to beat ! You've always been there for me, you've been like two wonderful guiding lights, you're like my ray of sunshine, you've made mornings out of the darkest nights. We have learnt so much from you both, but mostly how to work hard and how to love, we'd like to thank our lucky stars for being loved by you, but maybe we should just thank the heavens above. |
