| Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention please? Every now and then in life, there's opportunity you should seize. Because days, weeks, months happen, and fifty years they can go so fast, and words that should get said, don't, and if they do they never last. So I'm going to change all that, and change it right here and right now, I hope the right words will come along, I'll give it my best shot - anyhow. Because there are two very special people, and that's why we're all gathered here tonight, they have been like our morning sunshine, they've been like our guiding light. We love them so very much, where would we be without them? And if you were going to give them a score, well, it would simply be ten out of ten. We cherish the values that they've instilled, and we're thankful for everything that they've taught, their words have proven to be so wise, priceless lessons that can't be bought. We have the utmost respect for them, and will honour them to our dying days, we love them so very much, and in oh so many different ways. We'd thought we'd share a few highlights, and that's another reason for these rhymes, because we have so many wonderful memories, we've had so many wonderful times. I remember one such wonderful time, when Danny picked all the needles off the Xmas tree, a totally naked and bare pine, now that was a sight to see ! I remember another such wonderful time, when Becky asked what her belly button was for? Well, I'm glad that my eyes haven't seen, what Becky's belly button once saw ! And also, just what's in a name? And what does it matter to you? We just couldn't help it, (being called Baggy Britches and Boo Boo). My parents both grew up in Missouri, they were both on the Mooresville basketball team, they married straight after high school, and have epitomised the all American dream. They were both listed as being "henpecked", in my father's 1948 senior yearbook, but they've lasted 50 wonderful years together, obviously, they both knew just what it took. And their love for us and each other, is an example to us all, we are so very proud of them both, they make us feel about ten feet tall. And we'd just like to thank them, from the very bottom of our hearts, because they've mastered the art of parenthood, and that truly is one of the finer arts. They've always been there for us, I guess they always will, as oft times before, so here's to you, Mom and Dad, and here's to another fifty more. |
