Who do you want the poem written for: my wife
Why do you want the poem written: her 60th birthday
What are the key messages you would like to send: 1. profess my love and that of our children.we first met whilst at school in Sydney Australia, she was 16 and 1 was 17.She was and still is a very beautiful women with a warm and gentle personality. we were very much in love but my studies and her passion for dancing (modern&jazz ballet in hong kong and the phillipines) kept us apart for 3 years .we married at the age of 23/24 in 1967 and within 9 months our first son was born followed by our daughter's birth 13 months after. My work required us to move from Sydney to Adelaide in 1972 and back to Sydney in 1974 then on to Hong Kong in late 1974 until 1978 when we returned to Sydney again and lived here since then. During that time we had a very exciting life particularly in Hong kong as we travelled throughout Asia and often to Europe and the USA. After a while in Sydney we were lucky and my wife became pregnant for the third time and our son was born in 1981.Our older son married in 1995 and he and his wife lived with us for 5 years. Our daughter moved into her own apartment in 1997 and younger son continues to live at home.2 yrs ago eldest son and our daughter in law had a baby son 2.thank her for being the best wife and mother any person could wish for. from the first day we married wife gave up work and has dedicated her life to caring for our home and bearing and raising our children. She is patient, caring, calm and an extremely competent cook ,dressmaker and designer. She learnt to paint art using the Chinese water colour method whilst we were in hong kong and for the past ten years has been teaching the art twice weekly at the local college. During the years that the children were growing up I was travelling a lot in my job and therese had to manage on her own. I know she had some difficult times but never once has she complained. 3. acknowledge her pivotal role in the success of our family. we come from different backgrounds she is 3rd generation australian born and I am Lebanese born and migrated to australia with my parents in 1950.When we got married Therese did everything she could to ensure harmony existed between her parents and mine and continues to this day to respect my parents culture. She is an only child and her parents are outstanding in their devotion to her and the whole family. in recent times her mum dad are not in good health and in her own unflapable manner assists them almost on a daily basis. during our time together we have moved house 8 times and always she has taken the challenge in her stride. her approach is methodical ,calming and above all cheerful. She always has a smile for you-the same beautiful smile I saw when I first met her when she was sixteen and now that she is sixty the smile means so much to all of us.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: Our life has in the main been filled with much happiness and love and I am sure this would not have been so if it wasn't for the unique, beautiful nature of Therese.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts: I would like to call the poem "When She Was Sixteen" and open it with a reference to my discovery of her at school and finish off with ' now that you are sixty' and make reference to her persistant beauty and everpresent smile.
What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): happy and romantic from me and inclusive of the children, grandson and daughter in law. and parents

| Yours is the pivotal role in our family, you?re the calm skipper, steering the wheel, and I know I don?t say ?I love you? often enough, so these words are to tell you exactly how I feel. From sixteen to sixty, your beautiful smile remains intact, and I love you more today than yesterday, and that?s an ever evolving matter of fact. Because (NAME), you are truly wonderful, simply put, you are my dreams personified, and I know I couldn?t have picked finer, I know I couldn?t ? even if I?d tried. At sixteen, you were such a beautiful woman, but you?re even more beautiful today, because you have this beauty that's inside of you, and it shimmers out of you like a sun?s ray. And that light shines so brightly, and I?ve been radiated and warmed by your love, I know I?ve been blessed to have met you, I know that I?ve been blessed with your love. Your dancing and distance kept us apart, but thankfully, that was only in those early years, and I know I had to travel a lot in my job, but you seemed to calm the tantrums and the tears. During our time together we?ve moved eight times, but you made a home every time we stopped still, you manage everything in your own unflappable manner, and thankfully, I know you always will. Thank you for (NAMES), truly, through them we?ve achieved our dreams, and I?d like to thank you for being the perfect mother, and as a family, we make one of the world?s greatest teams. And now the branches of our tree are spreading, and (NAME) is starting to find some sun of his own, and I know all our children (and our grandchild), well, they?re all very grateful for the love that you?ve shown. From the first day we married you gave up work, and ever since, to us, you?ve dedicated your life, and I know I was very lucky to find you, I feel very proud to call you my wife. You?re patient, calm and caring, an extremely competent cook, dressmaker and designer, and your Chinese water colors are magnificent, as art goes, I can think of nothing finer. Although we were born many miles apart, you?ve done everything to bring our families together, and you?ve put the harmony in eight, and innately, I know that I?ll love you forever and ever. Now you?ve turned sexy sixty, and your beauty and smile remains the same, I just wanted to say ?I love you?, I?m so very proud that we both share the same name. And when she was sixteen, I think you know the girl I?m talking about, because she met me and I met happiness, and ever since, you?ve taught me what love is all about. So I just wanted to wish you Happy 60th Birthday, I guess that?s really what these words are for, here?s to you, (NAME), you?re truly wonderful, and here?s to our everlasting love, for evermore. |
