A sad poem from two sons who's father is dying at only 38 years old

Why do you want the poem written: He was diagnosed with cancer and only given maybe a year to live.
What are the key messages you would like to send: How much we love him and how it's not fair at age 38 that he is taken from us.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: Shane always remembers the time his father took him fishing and he was told he caught Moby Dick. The boys loved for their father to take them fishing.
Do you have any other comments or thoughts: This is a Christmas gift to my ex-husband from his kids. We've been divorced now since 2000. It's been real hard on the boys. They don't get to see or talk much with their father. But they do love him very much. Dominick is 15 and Shane is 9.

Fishing, For Evermore
| Hello, our wonderful father, these words are just for you, because we're proud of who you are, and we're very proud of what you do. And we just wanted to say "we love you", but in truth, we didn't know where to start, so we thought we'd share a few feelings, and give you some words, they're straight from the heart: Firstly, we'd like to begin by saying "thank you", despite it all, you've been a really great Dad, and we'd like to thank you for taking us fishing, in truth, they are some of the best times we've ever had. And it was great when we caught Moby Dick, but maybe that was just another fisherman's tale, but we've also got some other things to say, but I think, in this instance, words will simply fail. Because sometimes life is just rotten and unfair, and at others, it's not a rose filled dream, and we're truly sorry you and Mom had to split, it was like we'd lost exactly half of our winning team. And now, I know we don't see you that often, but you're still in our thoughts on every single day, and Dad, we just wanted to say "we love you", but we do have a few other things to say: You see, it's a crying shame about your news, but don't give up yet, keep the hope alive inside, because we know we couldn't have chosen a finer father, we know we couldn't - even if we'd tried. And truthfully, we don't want you to go yet, so come on, please hang around on planet Earth, because we both know your true and honest value, yes, we know exactly what your love is really worth. And we've got many more fishing trips inside of us, and who knows? One day, we might catch the real Moby Dick, so come on Dad, get those fishing rods out, (and to catch the big ones, we've got to get there real quick). So stop that dawdling and feeling sorry for yourself, everything will happen in it's own good time, just know that we both love you so very much, truly, you make up the reasons in our rhyme. And we just wanted to say "Happy Christmas", I guess that's really what these words are for, here's to you, Dad, you're truly wonderful, and here's to our love, and to us fishing, for evermore. |

thanks for the poem, I think it sounds excellent. The only thing I would change is at the end where it says Happy Christmas into Merry Christmas.
