These parents raised 5 daughters, paid for 5 weddings and therefore have 5 son's in law and now 11 grandchildren celebrate their 40th Wedding Anniversary, a gift of a poem from their daughters

What is your name : Brooke Anderson

Who do you want the poem written for: my parents Marty and Keren

Why do you want the poem written: It's their 40th wedding anniversary on 6/26/04. They are amazing people, as a couple and as individuals. They are unwavering in their love for each other and for their 5 daughters. They are role models and friends. They have been an inspiration. We could not be more blessed to have these 2 people be our parents.

What are the key messages you would like to send: Their love has withstood many trials while raising a family. They have always appeared united together to accomplish all that needed to be done. They have survived raising 5 daughters, 5 weddings, 5 son in laws and 11 grandchildren. Through good and bad times, they loved each other. Supporting, encouraging, believing in, and loving their family. They have been the defintion of "unconditional love" and "sacrifice"

Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable moments that you would like to share: They met in Las Vegas. My dad is from a well-to-do Californian family, who loved the beach. My mom is from a very small farming town in Idaho. (Needless to say, they came from very different back grounds) My mom's best friend at the time, had a crush on my dad, until he asked my mom out for the first time. On one of their dates, they went to the movies and my dad snuck in a box of cookies and carton of milk, my mom was a little taken back, but eventually learned to accept it. They were engaged a few short weeks after. On the way back from their honeymoon, my dad stopped to get gas and a drink, for some reason my parents had a disagreement, and instead of my mom telling my dad that she would like a drink too,she just sat there refusing to talk to him and my dad being equally as stuborn, didn't offer her anything to drink. They continued on in silence as my dad nondiscretely finished off his grape soda, while my mom sat there silent and thirsty. After being married for time and all eternity, they had their first baby nine months later. The next few years they spent expanding their family and putting my dad through graduate school ,while living in Utah. They both had to deal with the death of their parents, and with no other family around, they proceeded to raise their family pretty much only with each other. My dad worked 3 jobs, so my mom could stay home with us children. He is well respected in a profession that doesn't get a lot of recognition. He worked for the State (DCFS /social work) for 30 years, which is unheard of. He didn't do for the money or the glory,(because there isn't any) but because of the good benefits and retirement plans. My mom sacrificed her career of being a school teacher, so she could stay home with us. We never had to come home to any empty house. (there is security in knowing that your mom is always there.) My mom sacrificed her time to drive us to and from our various activities. (a couple of us were in a very competitive sport that required us to only attend 1/2 a day of school, so we could train at our gym a 1/2 hour away. Others of us were involved in ballet, tennis, piano, etc.) We had multiple pets while growing up. Both of my parents are animal lovers. We had one dog, who was as much a part of the family as any of us. His name was Cinnamon, he was a beagle. He loved to run, eat shoes, climb fences, howl and pull my parents blankets off their bed at night without them knowing it. He was a character. More than once you could find one of my parents chasing him with a hotdog in their hand, hoping to bribe him and get close enough to catch him, whether to bring him back home, or to retreive a shoe that he was chewing on.My parents endured a serious ongoing illness with one of us, rebellion, experimentaion of things and the consequences that followed, with some of us. They loved each other and us through it all. We had fun times as a family like our mini vacations to Park City and Snow Bird. We never wanted for anything and always had what we needed.

Do you have any other comments or thoughts: My parents are two very different people. (i.e. my dad loves action movies and James Bond and likes to listen to old rock music like C.C.R. and my mom likes emotional movies that "make her think" and listening to Ann Murray) Also phyiscally they are different, my mom is 5'2" and my dad is 6'2". But they work together to balance things out perfectly. They can push each others buttons, but know what to do to make it better. They always say "I love you" and never go to bed without a kiss goodnight. They can sit in complete silence and be comfortable or finish each others sentences. They have instilled value, morals, and love into each of their children.

What style of poem would you prefer (happy, sad, romantic etc.): Happy, romantic, nostalgic

Please choose which package you would prefer:Unique

Do you have any last comments or thoughts: I hope that this will be able to be completed by 6/26/2004. I know this is short notice, I just discovered this web site and I really wanted to do something special for these two people who have inspired and taught me so much.

Simply Amazing

You have simply been an inspiration,
you?ve been our role models, our friends,
and we?re going to explain what it means to us,
and hopefully, before these lines come to their ends.

You are simply amazing people,
and we?ve never said just how wonderful you are,
but if our love for you were a distance,
then it would be further than the furthest star.

As a couple or as individuals,
you have such a remarkable and amazing strength,
and we could go on about all of your virtues,
and we will, probably at great length.

The love you have for each other is unwavering,
and that's the love you?ve given to the ?famous five?,
your faith and belief in us all has inspired us,
you?re the reason every one of us will surely thrive.

We are who we are because of you,
you?ve looked out for us as we?ve grown,
and we?re very grateful for all of your kindness,
we?re very grateful for the love that you?ve shown.

And of all the children in this world,
we five sure know that we?ve been truly blessed,
because of all the parents in the world,
we?re so lucky (because we?ve got the very best).

Your love has withstood many trials and tribulations,
I guess they?re to be expected raising a large family,
but together, you?ve always got the job done,
and we?re thankful; you?ve made our worlds a great place to be.

Five daughters, five weddings, five son in laws,
and now eleven grandchildren have come along,
now, if together we make up the melody,
you?ve put the words in our song.

The story that started in Las Vegas,
and I guess this is a bit of a first,
because a box of cookies and a carton of milk,
turned into a noisily taken grape soda (with Mom dying of thirst)

The babies soon came along,
Dad worked three jobs while Mom stayed home to care,
we never had to come home to an empty house,
(and there?s security knowing that your Mom was always there).

Dad worked, largely unrecognized, for the State for thirty years,
whilst Mom gave up her time to drive us around,
and we know it?s vital to have loving, supporting parents,
or at least, as individuals, that?s what we've found.

Because you endured the ongoing illness,
rebellion, experimentation and all that followed,
and I know we gave you some very tough times,
they were like one of the shoes Cinnamon nearly swallowed.

But you loved each other and us through it all,
and we had our fun times too (like Park City and Snow Bird)
and we reckon of all the words ever spoken,
that forty years ago, ?I do?, were some of the finest ever heard.

Because you are definitely two different people,
one?s a James Bond lover, the other?s only five foot two,
but you know how to pull each others buttons,
and you never go to bed with out a kiss and a ?I love you?.

We too just wanted to say ?we love you?,
I guess that?s really what these words are for,
Happy 40th Anniversary, Mom and Dad, you?re wonderful,
and here?s to your simply amazing love for evermore.
