Full Name: Cindy McKibben
Who do you want the poem written for?: My parents - Charlie and Cathy Dickson
Why do you want the poem written ?: Their 50th wedding anniversary on January 9th
Key Messages: We are so proud of their commitment to each other and thankful for all the wonderful values they instilled in us. Grateful for the lifestyle we had growing up in Potomac, Maryland. We always had what we needed, but were not spoiled.
Memorable Moments: Dad loved gardening, we hated helping but loved eating what we grew from the vegetable garden. Mom did some canning so we would have stuff from the garden in the winter. Dad loved (and still does) riding his tractor and mowing the lawn. Mom used to take us for bicycle rides on the canal. We did girl scouts, boy scouts, mini bikes, go carts, sunny days at Timber Lake, dad used to make a sled run down the yard in the winter when it snowed. We had LOTs of pets - dogs, cats, snake, birds gerbils, even a goose followed us home one time from Great Falls. Dad was strict but had a great sense of humor. Mom was loving and always ran interference between us kids and dad. My brothers and I were always into or up to something - I'm not sure how they put up with us and our trips to the hospital emergency room. We have wonderful Christmas and vacation memories, especially the road trip to Canada - we now make sure we make hotel reservations ahead of time.
Other Comments: Mom always said the first thing she remembered after she married my dad and flew from Texas to Washington, DC. was how beautiful the city looked at night from the airplane.
My mom and dad eloped and mom wore a black velvet dress at the wedding ceremony.
Style: Warm and happy
Package Type: Deluxe
Last thoughts: I know I'm late on this but can it be completed and Fed Ex to me by Jan 8th?
| Hello, Mom and Dad, these lines are just for you, because we?re proud of who you are, and we?re very proud of what you do. We all had such a splendid childhood, and we grew up in what could be called a fairyland, we?ve all so many happy memories, from growing up in Potomac, Maryland. Dad really loved his garden, but we really hated helping out, however, we loved eating what he grew, we learnt early what Dad management was all about. Dad worked very long hours at his job, but still found time to teach us the lessons of life, he taught us all how to swim and ride a bike, and he showed us all how a man can love his wife. Mom used to take us for bicycle rides on the canal, and we did scouts, mini-bikes, go-carts, we had so much fun, those sunny days at Timber Lake would last forever, we could never get too much of the summer sun. And when those summer days were done, the winter snow would soon start to fall, and Dad would make a sled run in the yard, and then boy ! We?d certainly have a ball. We have wonderful Christmas and vacation memories, just one of the reasons for this little rhyme, we especially remember the road trip to Canada, and we now make sure we make reservations ahead of time ! We had an awful lot of pets, dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, even a snake, Mom and Dad showed so much patience, but I guess bringing home a part wolf was a little hard to take. Dad was very strict, but he always had a very human side, he also had a great sense of humor, and we couldn?t have picked a better father ? even if we?d tried. Mom was always very loving, and ran interference between the kids and Dad, and together they made a wonderful team, the best parents any children ever had. ?Wait until your father gets home?, Mom?s threat was never put to dare, which sort of contradicted Dad?s favorite saying: ?Whoever said that life was fair?? We were always up to something, and there was many a trip to the emergency room, but as now, they were always there for us, they?ve always been there to brighten the gloom. Mom believed in us all, and stood up for us too, Dad was a hero when he rescued, his young son from drowning in the ocean blue. And when we were still teenagers, Mom went back to college to get her degree, we were all so very proud of her, she proved that determination equals meant to be. We always had what we needed, but you were careful not to spoil us too much, we were like saplings in your care, and we?ve all been blessed by your tender loving touch. And thanks to you both, our lives have been better than we could have hoped, and we?re so very glad that you met each other, and had the good sense and determination to elope. And Mom has always said that her first memory, after marrying Dad and flying to Washington DC, was how beautiful the city looked that night, looking down I guess you were dreaming of how your life would be. Because, believe me, it has been so very beautiful, and together you?re a beautiful sight to behold, and yours is indeed a magical story, and it was one that certainly needed to be told. And you had three wonderful children, and the branches of your tree have grown, because you have four splendid grandchildren, and they too, have been blessed by all the love that you?ve shown. And as then, you are still there for each and all of us, and you?ve often lent more than just a helping hand, not only have you helped us financially, you?ve always lent an ear that will understand. You have instilled such wonderful values in all of us, and we?re very grateful for all the lessons that you?ve taught, you?ve certainly practiced what you?ve preached, and those are life lessons that simply can?t be bought. Your commitment to each other has been exemplary, and you?ve certainly proved what love is for, here?s to you Mom and Dad, happy 50th anniversary, and here?s to at least another fifty more. |
