Salt Of The Earth
| Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention please? Because every now and then in life, there's opportunity you should seize. Because days, weeks, months happen, and the years they can go so fast, and words that should get said, don't - and if they do they never last. So I'm going to change all that, change it right here and right now, I hope the right words come along, I'll give it my best shot, anyhow. You see, there are two very special "salty" people, and that's why we're all gathered here, you know that they're special, and that we love them dear. And the children would like to have their say, and that's what these words are for, because four, ten and fifteen, add up to lifelong happiness for evermore. But before we start our thanks, maybe it's time to look back a while, let's take a walk down memory lane, I'm sure that we'll be able to find a smile. It all started in Cunningham, Texas, late 1930s, but not just another teenage romance, Mom and Dad married straight after high school, they were young and took their chance. Dad played basketball for the school, and Mom already knew her sixty love, and even then they put God first, after all, there marriage was made in the heavens above. Dad has always been a prankster, he's never happy unless he's pulling a prank, so if there's a plastic fly in your soup, well then, you just know who to thank ! Mom has always been the homemaker, in the kitchen she's certainly got what it takes, and I know many, many a person, who would give dollars for one of her pound cakes. I'm glad "retired" is just a word, because both Mom and Dad help at the store, Dad restores the furniture, Mom answers the phone, and there goes another satisfied customer (once more). Our parents have always been there for us, whether to give advice or simply lend a hand, they've always provided encouragement, and a shoulder to cry on that would understand. They've always had a terrific faith, and those sound values they've passed on, their love for God and their children is obvious, it has consistently and brightly shone. So we'd really just like to say thanks, you've been an inspiration to us all, we feel like we're on your shoulders, you've made us feel about twelve feet tall. Because you've shown the true meaning of love, and you've been there every step of the way, like the Romans, you're worth your weight in salt, now - what more can there be left to say? Apart from: We love you so very much, you are indeed the salt of this earth, and now we know the meaning of family, and what two great parents are worth. So thanks - we do love you so, that's really what these words are for, here's to you Mom and Dad, and here's to another sixty more ! |
