What is your name: Tina Lawton
Who do you want the poem written for: Amita ( known to her friends as Ami) and Leighton ( bride and groom)
Why do you want the poem written: Amita is getting married to Leighton on August 27th 2005. As one of her best friends, she has asked me to give a speech at her wedding (rather than having father of the bride speech etc). I have known Ami for over 6 years now, we work for the same company, she in switzerland and I currently in Australia. She is fun loving, the life and soul of many a party, gives freely of her self to others and loves life. She lives for her friends and family. She always enjoys doing what defies convention and is never afraid to speak her mind. She is a successful professional, completing a part time MBA last year, and is successful in her career. She is sometimes gullable which we all love her for because she see's only the best in people. She went through a tough time 2 years ago , breaking up from a 10 year relationship and too the untlimely death of her mother. All her friends rallied around her to provide the love and support she needed to rebuild her life. Through this period, Leighton slowly emerged first as a friend, before patience, sincerity, bribery and persistence allowed him to demonstrate to Ami's satisfction his love for her. Leighton is a wonderful guy, a soul mate for Ami, looking out for her / them , with boundless patience and a wonderful caring manner. He also enjoys partying. They will get married in Switzerland, surrounded by friends and family from across the globe, all of whom have travelled willingly to celebrate their union. The wedding promises to be a happy, unconventional party - rocking into the early hours of the morning of the 28th. All guest will I'm sure have a wonderful time. Great examples to weave in to the poem - many of her friends travelled to Dublin to enjoy her hen weekend - Katie and Georgie (her bridesmaids) did a wonderful job of organising the weekend getting 18 of us dressed as british policewoman going out in Dublin ( very noticeable) to a tepanyaki restaurant and then on to a dance the night away - Ami was a star to wear the tiara/learner sash, but copped out by wearing a black dress unlike the rest of us! She has given us all many wonderful memories, organising new year skiing parties, champagne parties , enjoying a day out on a cruise on Sydney harbour drinking champagne and trying like the rest of us to keep our balance ( time / champagne corrrelation) and sometimes being dippy, locking me out of my apartment so I had to sleep in the basement :-) when I lived in Ch or _______ ( need another example). We all wish Ami and Leighton the very best in married life and wish to raise our glasses to celebtrate their union.

| Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention please? Because every now and then in life, there's opportunity you should seize. And that moment is upon us, after all, it's Ami and Leighton's wedding day, and I've got some thoughts on my mind, yes, I do have some heartfelt words to say. I have known Ami for over 6 years now, as many of you know, we work at the same company, and in that time, I've become one of her best friends, and she's made my world a much better place to be. From Switzerland to far flung Australia, we certainly cover the corners of this Earth, but Ami is so fun loving, the life and soul of many a party, and she's certainly proved her true and honest worth. I know she gives freely of herself to others, she lives for her friends and family and loves life, she always enjoys doing what defies convention, but conventionally, I know she'll make a wonderful wife. But watch out Leighton, she's a successful professional, and no, she's never afraid to speak her mind, but she is sometimes so gullible, which we all love in her, she sees only the best in people, really, she's far too kind. And I know that she's had her share of hard times, but I'm sure her mother is with us, here tonight, and I'm sure she approves of Leighton as we do, I can imagine her just standing there, smiling bright. Because Leighton really came out of the ashes, just one the friends who tried to help rebuild Ami's life, through this period, Leighton slowly emerged, first as a friend (and now they're husband and wife). But it took a lot of patience, sincerity and persistence, oh, did I mention that there was also a bribe, maybe one or two? But in the end, he was able to demonstrate his love, and today, they both had great pleasure in saying: "I do". Actually, Leighton is a really wonderful guy, he has boundless patience and a wonderful caring manner, and it is so obvious that they're both soul-mates, because Leighton wears his love on his heart, like a banner. He's also a lot of a party animal too, so I reckon tonight could last until daybreak, but then again, where are the Irish policewomen? Hello, hello, hello, enough of that, for goodness sake. But we have shared so many wonderful memories, in truth, there's just too many to individually list, just know that each and everyone is simply precious, I just wish I could remember them (sorry, too pissed). But we've tried to keep balance on Sydney harbour, and we've tried to handcuff the odd Dublin lad, we've skied, you've locked me out of my apartment, in truth, we've shared some of the best times I've ever had. But I did want to wish you a lifetime of happiness, remember, never take an argument past your bed, and I think that's the only advice I'm going to give you, after all, I think there's been quite enough that I've said. So I think I'll finish by saying "All the very best", and I know that sentiment is shared by all in this room, so it gives me great pleasure to say: "Ladies and gentlemen, please raise your glasses, the toast is 'The Bride and Groom' ". |
