Not too long after that, I lost my home,
and I ended up sleeping fitfully, in my car,
and then one day, you took the keys from me,
and ever since, I've really traveled far.
So please forgive me, my darling (NAME),
please come home soon, sometime when,
and I promise, I'll treat you so regally,
and I solemnly promise, no, never again.
I remember when you came home and said you were born again,
and I think that rebirth made you a better man,
you seemed kinder, closer, you said ?I love you? more,
and spending time with us became your lifelong plan.
So, you come home and rub her feet,
and I'll tell you, we both felt the benefit of that,
and for the record, Mom married her best friend in St.Lucia,
Mom says you're all man plus more (a matter of fact).
Because you took me home and I never left,
I'll never forget when you took me to meet your family,
you told them you were going to propose,
and they in turn, of course, then told me.
I also wanted to say "Happy Birthday",
but there's a few other words that need to be said,
because I know I'm a hot tempered guy,
and some times my tongue gets easily led.
However, it wasn't shining so brightly on your birthday,
if I recall (you won't remember), you were twenty one,
so wasted, you had to be carried up the stairs by a friend,
that night, certainly, your drinking days were done.
We went to college in (PLACE) and you quickly followed,
and that's where you decided you no longer wished to roam,
you're a great grandfather, you love everyone immensely,
but you do let your grandkids take over your home.
And did you know that when you left home,
well, I cried me a river for some days,
it felt like I was all alone, center stage,
it felt like I was starring in one of those tragic plays.
You lead at home as well as in the business,
and that leadership has always brightly shone,
so just know that I love you very much,
and our great times together are not done and gone.
I also know that you're a very thoughtful and loving person,
Mom says she's never known anyone even half as kind,
even though you work so very hard every single day,
you come home and mom's the first thing on your mind.
One of four children in an Italian family,
Lenny (the little kid) soon grew up and roared,
he started the business we all work for,
(but it's only because of us that it's really soared).
And I also wanted to Happy 80th Birthday,
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, (NAME), grandmother, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to at least another eighty more!
Look, I'm sorry I called you at home,
I was drunk and my fingers did the walking,
but I do think we could be very special together,
so maybe it's time we did some serious talking.
So Happy 75th Birthday,
That's really what these words are for,
here's to you, (NAME), you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our love, for evermore.
I am determined to make a home that you'll be proud of,
because I've never really said just how wonderful you are,
but if my love for you were a distance,
then it would be further than the furthest star.
I'd also like to say Happy 75th Birthday,
I guess that's really what these words are for,
here's to you, <NAME>, you're truly wonderful,
and here's to our everlasting love, for evermore.
