Look, we know you can sweet talk a fish onto your hook,
and despite your driving, you're never late for a bingo game,
but (NAME), we just wanted to say we're going to miss you,
without you, I'm sorry, but life just won't be the same.
From Switzerland to far flung Australia,
we certainly cover the corners of this Earth,
but (NAME) is so fun loving, the life and soul of many a party,
and she's certainly proved her true and honest worth.
You have also have attended so many dance watch nights,
dance recitals, school plays and concerts and many a basketball game,
let's not forget the soccer, baseball and of course, Amanda's softball,
if you weren't there, it just never felt the same.
I could go on about Thanksgivings and Christmas's,
evening trips to Thrifty and the best ice cream cones,
but I really want to talk about my parents,
even though Dad doesn?t say much, when anybody phones.
You used to cry so much at Christmas time,
and now those shoes are on our feet instead,
because there's great sadness in our hearts,
and there's still so much left to be said.
You met in your sophomore year at high school,
your first date was in your junior year, in 1952,
you went to a basketball game in (PLACE),
(NAME NAME) drove you there (what a nice thing to do).
I'll never forget the 23 years of Christmas gifts,
and shopping at JC Penney will never again, be the same,
I think I'll wear her favorite green and pink shirt,
I might even wear it to a basketball game.
Now, I guess I?ve been pretty rude,
because I haven?t even told you my name,
well, I think I?ll keep you guessing a little longer,
you can think of it as our little guessing game.
Seattle was so very special this year,
I really enjoyed being with your family at Christmas time,
I felt the warmth, the love the bond,
and I also felt the reason in this rhyme.
But such a lot happened in a few short years,
I sold my condo and we bought a house together,
and in April 2003, we had (NAME), your pride and joy,
and at the game, you asked if this was "forever".
Because they were always there for us
and Christmas will never be the same again,
maybe not until we are all once more together,
some day in the future, sometime when.
And her short bread biscuits were simply to die for,
not to mention her sweet potato and macaroni & cheese,
and I'll never forget the Christmas Mock Crayfish,
the best ever. (Would you like some more? Yes, please!)
He's also a lot of a party animal too,
so I reckon tonight could last until daybreak,
but then again, where are the Irish policewomen?
Hello, hello, hello, enough of that, for goodness sake.
Mind you, Dad worked at his Kraft for 45 years,
and at his retirement party, he received many an accolade,
all his colleagues just wanted to thank him,
but we too wanted to thank him for the role that he's played.
I remember when we were just five or six,
kickball was a game that we played,
I picked you ahead of the others,
and that's the best decision I've ever made.
It wasn't until Christmas of that year,
that was when I started to see a little common sense,
you came around for a chat and a coffee,
although I'll admit, things were still rather tense.
He goes to tons of track meets,
Never misses a soccer game;
But if you happen upon him,
Pastor (NAME) is his name!
The greatest Christmas stocking ever,
was not the one filled with my favourite toy,
instead, it was beautifully filled by you,
and you filled my life with happiness and joy.
Christmas was always my favourite time,
you could feel something special in the air,
and I just want to look back and remember,
because I have a memory to share.
Actually, he said he'd rather have a boat than this party,
but I know that's not true, as he's such a sensitive soul,
and I just wanted to say: "(NAME), I love you",
you are the one that makes me completely whole.
I remember dinner with dad after a little league championship,
I'll never forget him saying "I'm proud of you, son",
and we've had so many great hectic, stressful family times,
but at Thanksgiving and Christmas, how else does dinner get done?.
I wish you both so much happiness,
and the best of what life has in store,
I wish you plenty of Christmas stockings,
and I wish you love, always and for evermore.
Her Christmas spaghetti was legendary,
her front bedroom was where I spent my "time out",
she was often strict with me, just to be kind,
she certainly taught me what love is all about.
By that Fall, they decided to get married,
and dreams do come true on Christmas Eve,
and their close friends and family witnessed it all,
no Santa Claus but their own dream to believe.
And we know you just wanted to go to Las Vegas,
you didn't really want a party, let alone a cake,
but we wanted to say "thank you" in a special way,
so here's another clue, let's call it a wake.
(NAME) got to hear his first R rated word,
Dad used to fix everything, this time it was the brakes,
and then there was the full shaped Christmas tree,
and you should see the lemon meringue pie mother bakes.
I remember the time when Andrea got caught smoking,
I also remember the time when she changed her lock,
she got fed up with me always borrowing her shoes,
and yes, I'll admit to borrowing the odd party frock.
You came into the World during Christmas 2004,
but then literally, you had to take a life flight,
we all had to drive 2 hours to get there,
and that was only the start of a very long night.
