Well, I'd like to say you're cute as well,
but I also like that we're just very good friends,
we care, understand and love each other,
but that's where the romantic story ends.
Because in no time at all we were off to Vegas,
thanks to the enormous generosity of our friends,
$36.00 worth of pennies and a double wedding later,
but that's not quite where this story ends.
And the photo of you and Tyler,
tells the story without the need of narration;
Tyler looking at you with gratitude,
and what can only be described as admiration.
You used to cry so much at Christmas time,
and now those shoes are on our feet instead,
because there's great sadness in our hearts,
and there's still so much left to be said.
Six months later you were involved in your own accident,
you thought I'd leave, but we only came closer together,
and now, twelve and a half years later,
well, now I know our story will last forever and ever.
(NAME), I'd like to tell you a wonderful story,
I think you'll guess quickly who I'm talking about,
because if I said it was a magical fairy tale,
and it's about a princess, who's beautiful on the in and the out.
Now all this, started exactly 60 years ago,
well, sixty years and nine months to be precise,
and that's when this man's life story started out,
and what a story! (And didn't he turn out so very nice?)
I remember dinner with dad after a little league championship,
I'll never forget him saying "I'm proud of you, son",
and we've had so many great hectic, stressful family times,
but at Thanksgiving and Christmas, how else does dinner get done?.
Look we've come a long way from the Club Caliente,
how I miss the time when we'd hang out with friends,
remember taking the kids to the park because we were broke,
broke but happy (but that's not where this story ends).
But to be honest, none of that really matters,
because we're in this, our life, together,
and ours is a story of eternal longevity,
in other words, it's one that'll last forever and ever.
Now, our story started out at a botanical garden,
the date was but I certainly wasn't blind,
and I knew then what I'd discovered,
it was like this rare and precious find.
Because you'll always be a winner in our eyes,
and your s is already a story that must be told,
all we ask is that you give life your very best shot,
and if there's even the slightest chance, go for gold!
Seattle was so very special this year,
I really enjoyed being with your family at Christmas time,
I felt the warmth, the love the bond,
and I also felt the reason in this rhyme.
Mom remembers Dad walking her to the door,
he wore a bright red wool flannel hooded stadium coat,
and that's where this story started, over 52 years ago,
and that's one of the nicest lines I've ever wrote.
But no earthbound story can last forever,
because if we're good, we'll all find the heavens above,
and now we imagine (NAME), on her cloud, on her star,
still looking down on us, showering us all, with her love.
And her short bread biscuits were simply to die for,
not to mention her sweet potato and macaroni & cheese,
and I'll never forget the Christmas Mock Crayfish,
the best ever. (Would you like some more? Yes, please!)
Because you've finished first or second, four or five times,
but in our lives, you've simply won gold,
and we just wanted to say "we love you",
and that's why your story must be told:
I also wanted to say what a beautiful lady you are,
not only are you attractive, you're also very smart,
I don't think you should listen to what your husband says,
this success story spotted another one right from the start.
Her Christmas spaghetti was legendary,
her front bedroom was where I spent my "time out",
she was often strict with me, just to be kind,
she certainly taught me what love is all about.
It wasn't until Christmas of that year,
that was when I started to see a little common sense,
you came around for a chat and a coffee,
although I'll admit, things were still rather tense.
I'll never forget our beautiful wedding ceremony,
exactly three years later, in the garden where we met,
and I know our story is only just starting,
as the saying goes: "You ain't see nothing yet!"
But we digress, so back to the story,
because the girls were waiting to come along,
always 15 or 20 hours, always in the middle of the night,
so when (NAME) arrived, Dad thought something was wrong.
(NAME), I'd like to tell you a wonderful story,
I think you'll guess quickly who I'm talking about,
because if I said it was a magical fairy tale,
and it's about a princess, who's beautiful on the in and the out.
I'll never forget the 23 years of Christmas gifts,
and shopping at JC Penney will never again, be the same,
I think I'll wear her favorite green and pink shirt,
I might even wear it to a basketball game.
When I was a kid, I was scared of that curtain rod,
because with it, she'd chase me out from under the bed,
and every year, she'd retell the story of my birth,
so now, everybody has heard that tale (so it's been said).
