These rings are our two families,
together we shall now unite,
respectful of our individual pasts,
but looking forward to our future bright.
I know things don?t always go our way,
rings even get dropped in a spaghetti plate,
but I wanted you to know that we?re in this together,
that you, my love, are my soul-mate.

Hand In Hand
On this your very special birthday,
(and I don't really know where to start),
but I thought it would be timely,
to share a few words from my heart.
You see, I love you so very, very much,
and I love just who you are,
and if my love for you were a distance to be traveled,
then it would be further than the furthest star.
Now I know that things aren't perfect,
but life isn't a rose tinted dream,
I know that you and I belong together,
because we truly are a magical team.
We'll make our memories together,
as memories have been made before,
because I am going to love you forever,
today, tomorrow and for evermore.
Because what we have is special,
and I know what "not special" is like, I suppose,
you have lifted me out of my valley,
and carried me up to where true love grows.
Just know that I love you very much,
and I'm looking forward to a lifetime together,
but there's one thing that's been on my mind:
Will you still call me "Baby" forever?
Remember the time at the Ocean?
We stayed up all night and watched the sunrise,
we walked hand in hand along the beach,
together, united, I guess it was no surprise.
One engagement, a wedding and a new home,
treasured memories I will always hold dear,
but I guess you could call it eventful,
because it all happened in just the one year.
I'll never forget Martha's Vineyard,
although the guest list didn't take that long to get through,
but you made me the happiest woman in the world,
from that precious moment you said "I do".
And I'd just like to say thank you,
thanks for always being there,
thanks for being a wonderful husband and father,
and thanks for showing that you truly care.
For no matter what obstacles come our way,
divided we fall, united we stand,
and we'll walk together towards our sunset,
heart in heart, soul in soul, hand in hand.
So I guess that this wasn't that bad,
considering I didn't know where to start,
just know that I love you,
Happy <Number> Birthday, Sweetheart.
Only three years ago,
we were looking at engagement rings,
but I just got scared and ran,
afraid of the commitment that jewellery brings.
I'm like a teenager waiting for her boyfriend to call,
and although I laugh at myself, I run when the phone rings,
because I know you will be on the other end of the line,
and I know just what happiness your voice brings.
And our story that started back in (PLACE),
well, since then we've all spread our wings,
but I'm so glad you've found your happiness,
you've found the gold in your wedding rings.
We went on the Kentucky trip,
and we've told each other just everything,
we've shopped and lunched together,
you were the first I told about the engagement ring.
She loved to go "commando" when shopping (inside joke),
and Misty and Snickers are her two dogs that she lived for,
she loved sports, the Boston Celtics and Larry Byrd,
she is the rock of our family (and will be for evermore).
I'm like a teenager waiting for her boyfriend to call,
and although I laugh at myself, I run when the phone rings,
because I know you will be on the other end of the line,
and I know just what happiness your voice brings.
Not that you had to ask me the first time,
because it was innate, we simply just knew,
there was no proposal, no rings, just us,
and that's the hyphenated us, me-and-you.
The gold plate, once for rings, became a sick tray,
and Dad had to leave Mom at the altar, all alone,
thankfully, after washing and cleaning up, Dad came back,
and managed to get through it all (with just the odd groan).
And do you know the tragic thing?
(and this is so very hard for me to tell),
but I just want you to be standing there,
every time someone rings my door-bell.

I want to say it aloud,
I want to tell the world,
let them know that I'm proud.
Our children are so important to us both,
they are one of life's more magical things,
and the magic of our collective love
is contained within these rings.
So now it?s a new place with new jobs,
and gold rings, that symbolize us as ?husband and wife?,
and (NAME), I just wanted to say ?I love you?,
I feel very privileged to be sharing your life.

The phone still rings off the hook for consulting projects,
and to so very many, you?ve remained lifelong friends,
but you?ve also been devoted to family, church and work,

And that's nearly as far as Boston to New Jersey,
do you remember how you used to drive that every weekend?
That's not the act of someone that "hates" me,
that's more the devotion of a lifelong friend.
Your life is a strong testament,
you're both people and you've done good things,
you are saints, truly remarkable people,
you're the gold in each other's wedding rings.
I'll never forget our engagement dinner,
but your proposal got delayed by my surprise,
so you proposed to me at 3 am in the morning,
of course I said "yes" (after I'd wiped the sleep from my eyes).
We want to surround you with our love
and cherish you today and forever;
with these rings we now join our family
and as one family will stay together.
And from our engagement to our wonderful wedding,
well, I guess that?s for another story to be told,
because I know we?ll share many more magical moments,
because (NAME)., it?s with you I?m going to get gray and old.
