Because you have persistently and consistently loved us,
and it seems like 'you' is always the last thing on your mind,
you have this wonderful gift of being able to inspire,
and we know that's a treasure and so very hard to find.
Last year I searched so many stores,
in truth, I searched long and hard, high and low,
but I ended up giving you chocolates and a card,
and now there are some things you need to know.
Look, I'm sorry I called you at home,
I was drunk and my fingers did the walking,
but I do think we could be very special together,
so maybe it's time we did some serious talking.
You gave me the courage to follow in your steps,
and at the end of day, that?s the greatest gift of all,
as Dad, because of you I walk taller,
in fact, I feel like I?m ten feel tall!
So, you will continue to be my lifelong companion,
and I know at times, that's going to be pretty hard,
but maybe I'll take you skydiving or parasailing,
maybe I'll even pay for a meal with your library card.
So, you come home and rub her feet,
and I'll tell you, we both felt the benefit of that,
and for the record, Mom married her best friend in St.Lucia,
Mom says you're all man plus more (a matter of fact).
So please forgive me, my darling (NAME),
please come home soon, sometime when,
and I promise, I'll treat you so regally,
and I solemnly promise, no, never again.
You are the greatest gift on earth,
in fact, a gift from God above,
and now I know the meaning of marriage,
and now I know the meaning of true love.
Not too long after that, I lost my home,
and I ended up sleeping fitfully, in my car,
and then one day, you took the keys from me,
and ever since, I've really traveled far.
And if you decide to come to me,
I want it to be of your own volition, your own free will,
because I know I'll always be here for you,
and as it's always, I guess I always will.
I am determined to make a home that you'll be proud of,
because I've never really said just how wonderful you are,
but if my love for you were a distance,
then it would be further than the furthest star.
You lead at home as well as in the business,
and that leadership has always brightly shone,
so just know that I love you very much,
and our great times together are not done and gone.
Because you took me home and I never left,
I'll never forget when you took me to meet your family,
you told them you were going to propose,
and they in turn, of course, then told me.
I remember when you came home and said you were born again,
and I think that rebirth made you a better man,
you seemed kinder, closer, you said ?I love you? more,
and spending time with us became your lifelong plan.
I also know that you're a very thoughtful and loving person,
Mom says she's never known anyone even half as kind,
even though you work so very hard every single day,
you come home and mom's the first thing on your mind.
And did you know that when you left home,
well, I cried me a river for some days,
it felt like I was all alone, center stage,
it felt like I was starring in one of those tragic plays.
She loved the Lord and shared that gift with us all,
she had a big heart and taught us all how to give,
she was always thinking of and doing for others,
in truth, I think she taught us all how to live.
